Skin Care: Choosing Coconut Oil

Skin Care: Choosing Coconut Oil

Coconuts are some of my favorite foods because they are so diverse. From the milk to the oil you can use them in almost anything and end up with something good. Coconut oil in particular smells amazing and is one of the best things for your body – especially your skin.Although lotions are great, they are typically filled with toxic ingredients and are expensive. Coconut oil is a cost-effective choice that penetrates your skin on a deeper level opposed to what you find on the bath & body works shelves. It can be used in a variety of ways, has rapid results, and is healthy for you!I like to buy Coconut Certified Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil in a jar (because I use it for cooking too) but when I travel I get the coconut oil single packets which are so convenient. My favorite is Kelapo Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 10-Count Pouches it is easy to use, cheap, and leaves your skin silky smooth. Below are just a few of the many ways to use this magical oil.

Body Oil – This is my favorite and most used way. For dry skin (a serious issue this time of year) turn to coconut oil. Take a little bit, rub it in your hands, then lather over your skin. Not only does it have lasting results but it smells great too. I repeat this process everyday after I get out of the shower.

Tanning Oil – Coconut oil tans you faster, I swear. It has little SPF protection (4 to be exact) but it still prevents you from burning or peeling. Lather a generous amount over your body and re-apply when necessary. You will be perfectly bronzed and moisturized after.

Makeup Remover – When I first heard you could use this on your skin I was hesitant. Putting oil on my face did not sound like a good idea. However, your skin naturally produces oils and helps kill bacteria. Coconut oil does the same while hydrating and leaving your skin looking fresh and vibrant.

Skin Care – Stretch marks and cellulite absolutely exist and they absolutely suck. Coconut oil speedily reduces the marks left behind while hydrating as well. You can also use it for shaving gel. It is WAY HEALTHIER than shaving cream or scrubs. It also prevents razor burn and moisturizes. If you love scrubs, just add some Coconut Sugar to the oil, mix around in a jar, and keep it in your shower.

Bath Oil – For those that live the lavish lifestyle and actually own a bath tub (I envy you) you can use this oil for your bath. Pour 1/4 cup of Epsom salts (don’t smoke them) and 1/4 cup of coconut oil into a hot bath. If you have essential oils add some in too, they are great for relaxation.
